Hi All, The motor mount change on this 89 745T turned into a Turbo remove/replace as well. I could not see getting the motor mount top nut out at all, and the mount bolts are quite difficult to get at with the Turbo in place. So out it all came.
Now, I did have replacement copper seals and gasket for oil return line. I also had a new oil feed tube but could not see how to get it off at the block end as it seems quite buried in there with the oil filter and oil cooler fittings and lines. What has to come off here, does the large fitting that the oil cooler lines attach to have to be removed from the block?
I certainly had to push the feed tube about a bit to get the Turbo over and up from here and I'm afraid of the 'coked' line and quick death if a deposit of crud shakes loose.
The turbo had suspiciously 'shiny' edges on part of the blades on the exhaust side, which suggests contact (very bad idea I would imagine). I MAY have been the cause of this however as the large copper(?) clamp was a little loose from a prior look at all this last year, and any slackness in that connection seems to decrease clearances with the blade vanes when spun by hand (i.e. when not seated totally, some exhaust vane contact can be detected when spining and pushing/pulling a little on the intake vanes, not much movement, but some)
I'm guessing my Turbo is nearing the end-of-life after this episode, so maybe I save the new oil feed tube for the expected replacement but I still have to get it off the block somehow?
Cheers
Greg
