My '79 242 B21 runs real hot all the time and also hesitates when pressing the gas. 200 1979

Hi fellas. My '79 runs hot real quick to the point that the guage is up to the red after only 10 minutes of running at idle OR driving. I have replaced the radiator, the thermostat (put in 82 temp), the coolant temp sensor, and new 50/50 mix. Still runs hot. The old water pump still seems okay with no loud sounds and not leaksTiming seems advanced a lot. Would this cause the overheating and therefore the hesitation? I also removed that exhaust piping and innards from the airbox so that it would get fresh air at all times. The gas tank is fine and the pumps seem okay. I also removed the old worthless a/c condensor to improve air flow. Still hot. I am too, and frustrated!!! I have heard the hesitation may be due to the little valve at the main pumps needing replacing. The hesitation seems especially bad in hot weather and with the engine running so hot, the hesitation (usually during acceleration) is always there. I am ashamed to admit, but I have never really known how to properly time one of these. I do feel that timing is the issue. Any ideas? Please remember this is the "simple" CIS system with mechanical injectors.
