B20A vs. B20B valve clearances 120-130

I just finished setting the valve clearances on my son's B20B to the requisite .020 - .022" and the thing clatters away annoyingly. The PO had set the valves tighter. Although I didn't check them all, I suspect they were .016 - .018" as spec'd for the B20A. Can anybody explain why the difference between the B20A and B20B specs?
