Need alternator help! 200

I'm having a heck of a time figuring out why my water pump pulley is rubbing against the alternator tensioning bracket on my '91 240. I just swapped in a replacement engine and noticed the problem. The tensioner has a rubber bushing where it mounts onto the front of the engine block. It looks like all of this can only go on the car one way. Does the rubber bushing go on facing toward the rear of the car or to the front? The interference with the pulley is wearing right on the bit that the long tensioning bolt runs through. Maybe this isn't sitting far enough away from the pulley?

Thanks in advance,
Dave
