Starter issue: would a new battery fix? 700 1987

Hi folks,

I have an old battery, and when I got the car, the contacts were scary corroded. Every once in a while, my starter will 'whizz' and the solenoid will stick. Usually turning off the ignition and pulling the key, then starting again will result in a clean start a moment later (whereas just turning the key again will make it 'whizz'). I wonder, then, if it's an electrical issue.

Would getting a fresh new battery make the movements of the solenoid more 'quick' and effective?

Thanks!

Ari
