quick gas mileage test 200 1993

Decided to do a quick gas mileage test today in my '93 244, automatic. 37 psi cold tire pressure.

I filled up at Shell with 93 (as I have been doing lately). The trip meter at 099.

Drove approximately one mile to the highway entrance, turned on the A/C, and put the windows up.

Used cruise control the entire drive at 65 mph until reaching the exit, for a total of 19 highway miles. Trip meter now at 118.

Drove seven city miles to get back on the highway (had A/C on). Drove in the same manner: 65 mph, cruise, and with A/C. Travelled an additional 17 highway miles and another city mile back to the same Shell station.

The sedan took 1.722 gallons (93 again).

So, I estimate I drove 43 to 44 miles in total, about 37 of which were highway, and about 7 of which were city (I took it real easy). Therefore, 1.7 / 44 = 25.8. But I'm going to say a solid 26 mpg, giving or taking slightly from my numbers. I think that's pretty good for a 15 year old car with an automatic, 90 + degrees outside running A/C, no?

Any comments?
