I had Miss Helga up on the lift again this morning, and had the wheels off for it's annual tire rotation. I noticed that there was some crud on the lower part of the rear shocks. I wiped it off with a rag, and it turned out to be oily dirt. Being the inquisiteve type, I grabbed a few tools, and removed one of the shocks. It came off with no problem... and tried compressing it against the floor. It bottomed out with no resistance, and the rebound test was the same. In short, the shocks are toast. They are the original shocks that came on the wagon, as are the struts. They are really old (they will be 24 years old in November), but they have only seen 117,000 miles go by, and all of this has been smooth road. My question is, what shocks and struts should I purchase? I don't drive in a sporting manner, and probably would not have noticed that they were gone had I not noticed the crud. I don't think that I need Koni's, so what is the verdict on the Boge-Automatics?
Thanks,
Bill
