89 240 runs very rich at idle. Bad AMM 200

Could a bad AMM cause a very rich idle? What would happen If I did something stupid like unplug AMM while ignition was on or ran was running (BRAIN FART).
The car was running very bad, cleaned & adjusted throttle body & ran better, still rich run.
