should the 52mm dash clock light up? 140-160 1969

Just installed the little clock where the ash tray used to be. It looks like it belongs there! I'm just wondering if it is supposed to light up. (It keeps perfect time btw.) If not, maybe I'll wire a fiber-optic light or grain-of-rice bulb to it. Just wondered if the light was burnt out or it was never supposed to light up.
