WHAT have they done to my 240.. 200 1983

I've just recently started looking into the running condition of my 240 that the woman drives. So far I've found every exhaust nut, except the two on cyl number two that are broke off, had all worked there way loose and have what I think is the wrong washer on them. One stud fell out the other day.
The head is off something that was K-jet, the injector holes are plugged up and it has what I think was the thermo-time sensor back there toward the rear.
I was told it was an A cam, or something like that, came in the head. Canadian?
It has always had a bit of light throttle pinging on regular gas, but not on premium. I can't keep premium in it since the woman is driving it, so I thought I'd check the timing. It was indeed advanced quite a bit from the 12btdc or so the sticker says. I backed it to stock, and it was a DOG! Like dangerously slow, like open the throttle and count to 4 before it hits 3K rpm. I settled on 18btdc and it's tolerable and not pinging so far. The silly single wire knock sensor was barely hooked up, I had to put one in from my parts car, after I soldered that stupid slip on it so I could actually hook a wire to it. Shame it can't tolerate more timing, it feels great with about 22 degrees btdc.
The wiring, ugh. It's patch worked, and there are replaced wires and un-hooked wires I can't readily track where should go. The center plug on the firewall is gone, been spliced in. I have a parts car and a good harness in the same year thankfully. I tried to set the idle, jumped the blue wire on the plug to ground, it will not idle without the IAC active. I replaced the adjuster's o-ring and made sure it wasn't plugged up, just can't do it. And with the AC switch full CCW to off it's even worse. Ugh..

So far the plan I think is to have my parts car's head gone through and put it on with the wiring and go from there. I can't imagine what they have done to this thing to make it run like it does. No bad noise or oil usage or smoke, so I think the bottom end is alright at least.

I guess this is more of a rant than anything else. I hate it when people kobble stuff together like this. It's a credit to the durability of the car that it's soldiered along the last 10K miles since I bought it. And it's still a rust free running driving $500 240, so I guess I can't complain too much.

That crysler ignition with the white cap, is ther any easy way to ditch it for, I don't know, an MSD box with a breakerless distributor that has an advance mechanism or something? The timing mark is jumpy as heck at idle, and I've read this is common. I don't recall this being a good ignition in particular when it was on the Omni's and Horizons back then.
