95' 940 Auto-trans RPM to high prior to changing gears 900

My 1995 940 takes to long changing gears. Flat road no pushing hard on the gas and the car goes up to near 3,000 RPM and stays there for a bit before it decides to change gear. If I softem my foot on the pedal for a second I can make it change gears, but on its own is kind a hard driving.
Any opinions? Thanks
