Deep six AC, '88 240 200

I can't stand looking at, or working around, that lump, that worthless lump compressor under the power steering pump, not to mention being stranded when the bearing fails. So, I start looking around for info on belting the Power steering pump. IPD says their kit will not work, and then I see, in the junk yard, an '85 245, with a belt running the Power steering pump from the crank straight to the pump. With one belt running the alternator. Looked fine to me, since my older 140's never had more than one belt running the alternator.

So, off comes that belt, home to my 240, oops, the timing extrusion on the timing belt cover is in the way. I'm thinking, maybe just cut a notch in the timing scale? And then, rather, I get a long belt and try to run it under the crank, around the alternator, over the top on the water pump, finally around the Power steering pulley! No, now a weird dimple thingee with a rubber plug insert is in the way!

Question, is it possible to, has anyone tried, to cut that dimple off, epoxy a cover over the hole, and then install the long belt? I don't even know why the dimple is there since the entire cover is removed for service to the timing belt. AC is non-operable, has been since I bought the car in '02. If it worked, I wouldn't use it. My car has windows that crank down. Thanks.
