Hey gang,
Long story short, I either have stripped threads in the strut tube (doh!) or the brand new gland nut after a strut replacement. Gland nut threaded in smooth and tighted fine, but after a week at full extension with the coil spring on (while I was waiting for a steering rack to show up), the gland nut seems to have jumped a few threads, and now it won't tighten.
It'd be good to have a spare gland nut before I go digging into it again. Anyone know where to get a new gland nut? FCP can't get them.
Likewise, any tips on safely "defusing" this potential bomb? The gland nut will hold things together with the weight off the wheels, but I have zero confidence in it, and removal of the strut assembly the traditional way kind of scares me a little. Hmmmm.... I guess I could see if the spring compressor will work upside down. Oh joy...
Thanks!
