Just got my new front hub for my 1991 740, and noted a plastic sleeve or something inside the inner race for the inner bearing. Looking at the inside side (towards the strut, not the wheel/tire) of the hub, there is a little ring of plastic circles stuffed in the bore of the inner bearing's inner race. Should I leave it in place when I try to put it on, or remove it or what? Could it be Volvo's way of rigging up the gadget in the FAQ (a cable tie, if I remember) to hold everything together as the bearing is pushed on to the axle stub?
If my lousy description is, well, lousy, I can post a photo tomorrow morning if anyone thinks it would help solve the mystery.
By the way, the inner race of the OUTER bearing had fallen out in transit, just like Will's entry in the FAQ said it would. Pushing the bearings toward the outside of the hub worked like a charm. The race just literally fell back into place on its own.
