Glass Mounted Antenna - No AM reception 900 1993

I've seen a couple of threads on this, but no real conclusions. So here goes again: Our '93 940 wagon has a glass mounted antenna on the rear left window. It didn't get AM reception when we bought it a year ago, and now, after getting a new head unit installed, it still doesn't get AM reception. I thought maybe the antenna had come unplugged before, because FM came in fine. In fact, the unit we just had installed (by CarToys) receives HD radio amazingly--but no AM. Anyway, is there something that might have been overlooked that is particular to this model? Thanks for any advice....
