key won't turn in ignition 200 1990

I replaced the backup light switch by the shift lever. I took off part of the front console to get at the carpet to get at the plugs for the switch. Now I want to try the switch and the key won't turn. Since this is a 1990 240 I thinks the only lock on the key is in the column. I already tried moving the steering wheel. This same key works in the door, and was used to drive the car into the garage. This is a replacement key.
