I've got a nice pair of 4" aftermarket speakers and I want to take out the stock OEM speakers from the rear door panels on my 1990 240. The stock speakers are attached to the door panels via a bracket, which, in turn is fastened to the door panels with four fancy RIVETS, no screws involved. There is nothing about the rivets to allow non-destructive removal.
The position of the four rivets is conveniently identical to where the mounting plate holes are in the aftermarket speaker.
Has anyone does this upgrade? Any tips?
I'm guessing you have to cut off the rivets, and then just figure out a way to use the original rivet holes for machine screws and nuts, to secure the aftermarket speaker's bracket, yes?
Dumb question, I know.
Thanks.
