Possibly Purchasing a 1988 740 Wagon, advice needed 700 1988

I've been looking to buy a Volvo for college, not wanting to take my 1980 300cd MB to college. I am fairly experienced working on 70's european tanks. I'm going to look at this 1988 Volvo 740 Wagon soon, and I have a few questions about it. It's the original owner's car and I assume it has service records. It's been driven about 6k per year for a number of years. The "valves clicking" sentence might not be a good thing. What would cause the valves to click, low oil or something? Is this a possible price negotiation point? Any things to look out for on this particular model, flame trap, blower motor, etc? Thanks for your input.

"

My 87 year old Dad no longer drives. Selling his 1988 Gold Volvo 740 Station Wagon, 2.3L 4cyl, automatic, A/C AM/FM radio, sun roof, black leather interior. 161,951 miles. Body is excellent, garaged in Clayton high rise, black leather interior is good, cloth interior roof is poor, needs tune up and valves click, but absolutely no burning of oil, Kelley blue book is $1405. Will sell for $1250 as it needs registration. "
