Hi all,
Car is a 1991 744T with 155k miles. I'm chasing down an intermittent no start and was trying to replace RPM sensor and distributor cap and rotor. Following all the caveats from folks here, the RPM sensor was a snap to remove. The distributor cap come off easily too. The rotor just wouldn't budge. I tried to lever it off, but only managed to break off the top half of it. This piece went flying into the firewall and ricocheted to somewhere in the engine compartment. I can't find it. Ack!
Questions: How important is it that I find this piece? Will eventually just fall out as I'm driving around, or can it seriously foul things up? Are there some hiding places you know about?
2) How in the world do I get the rotor off? I tried using a flat head screwdriver, inserted the end into the gap between the distributor shaft and the rotor, using the distributor itself as a leverage point. I applied some serious force and got nothing. I don't want to damage the distributor (or the shaft). There must be an easier way to get this thing off. Any advice?
Thanks in advance.
Mike
