Whats the primary diference between 940 and 740? 700 1991

I went to look at a very clean 940 that was advertised as a 740. I have owned many 740s but never a 940 and saw very little difference? I will do a search.
in the meantime all those who have owned both would sure like some feed back.

OH! One more thing even though I could tell there was not alot of wear and tear overall and the engine was spotless with 122k! The odometer was not working? IS this a big problem to get working again?
