Turbo air box check ball 200 1982

Wow am I stumped. I am cleaning up my 82 245t in preparation for installing my intercooler. Cleaned out the bottom of the fuel metering air box today to change the filter. A tiny bit of oil, dust and dirt....and a single, shiny, steel ball bearing! Like a check ball. The only one I know of in the system is on the metering plate pivot shaft, but how could that wind up in the bottom? Car is running perfectly. What the heck is this thing?
