I have a 1991 740 sedan with 220,000 miles on it and it has 2.3L inline four.
I've noticed that when I go to start it, the engine will crank but not turn over. It will start on the the second attempt, and then act as though it is going to stall. The "check engine" light has not come on, and the car runs perfectly once I get it started and it shifts, accelerates and idles very smoothly.
This has been happening intermittentedly over the past three days. All other systems work fine; the battery is fully charged, etc. I'm very limited on funds, so I'm hoping to avoid a costly diagnostic work-up. I am hoping to get some input here on this board. My DIY expertise has been limited to oil changes so far, but I'm up for learning if it's a simple fix.
Many thanks!
