Mystery Part 700 1989

Hi all,

I was trying to find the part number for my IGN control module, when I found something I find to be quite odd up under my dash,

I have an eight pin connector, bundled with a single connector, hanging from the dash with nothing connected to it. Now, I have found a part that is very close to matching up with this harness, but is off by only a tiny little bit. This part came from a junkyard and was just in a bin. I happened to notice the similarity between the wire harness hanging and the hook up for this part. It is very very very odd. What it says:

GR-steuergerat 12V

5GA 004 872-00

Volvo
3501472

1 2 3 4
9 5 6 7 8


The 1-9 are obviously telling me which pin is which, but the function of this little black box is a mystery, not to mention whether or not it should be installed on my car....
