Just replaced head, intake & exhaust gaskets; new oil seperator, new water pump, oil change, pulled my backup MAF off and put the new rebuilt on (FCP) and new timing belt. I've changed a number of Volvo 240 belts. Never a problem. I even use the proper tool to hold the crankshaft pulley. I cleaned the top deck of the head with kerosene, let it dry and applied a light coating of oil on the cam lobes. All before I installed it of course.
So I start the car and I have an instant knock. Shut it down after a few seconds. Almost sounds like a rod wants to let go. Took the front end apart and the Camshaft, Idler and Crank pulley all were on their marks with #1 at TDC.
Did I induce a valve to stick during the head gasket swap out? Is it possible to get the head gasket 180 out? I thought I was being careful. I even vacuumed cylinders 2 and 3 to be sure nothing was left behind.
Thoughts please. Wasn't exactly planning on working on this on Sunday too. Oh well!
