Project expense tracking and recordkeeping

Howdy all,

What are you rebuilders, restorers, and refurbishers using to track project costs and to catalog parts used/needed?

When I built Frieda Nell I wasn't too concerned about tracking the cost. What I ended up with was a plastic bag full of receipts and only a vague idea what the actual final costs were. My wife thinks it was $8K :-) I know I spent at least $12K over three years, maybe more.

Friday I picked up the father and son project that I hope will keep my boy interested for the next three years. It is a '64 130 in need of just about everything. I figured it would be a really good idea to track time and money along with the actual hands-on work.

I'll get started with a spiral notebook and just record things as they happen. But it would be really nice to have a piece of software to do all the tracking and calculations. An area to add contacts and parts sources would be nice.

I downloaded a couple of trials from my Google searches. I am not impressed enough with either of them to buy. Suggestions?
