Cruise control is out of control 900

'93 945 turbo.
I've had this happen a couple times in the last few days, first time I had touched the button to increase my speed and the cruise control acted is if I had held the button down and just kept accelerating. Second time I was just going along down the interstate and it started accelerating and had picked up about 5mph before I tapped the brake to turn it off.
Everything else about the cruise works just fine. About 8mo. ago I had to adjust the vacuum switch on the brake pedal arm but that was due to it being bumped around while changing the ABS computer, until a few days ago it had been working perfectly since then.
Sounds like an electrical problem to me, maybe the set/accel switch on the end of the stalk. Can this be serviced/cleaned or am I better off just finding a good replacement stalk.
Any other ideas on what to look at would be appreciated.
