Air conversion oil question 700

I am changing from R12 to R134a. I had a school do it as a project as at the time I was injured. I got the Volvo kit, and a used compressor that was in a car that had already been converted to R134 (mine had seized so I thought this was an opportune time for the swap). They got everything installed, and vacuumed the system for about 45 mins, then started to charge it when the condenser popped a leak. Very little R134 was put in, and this was a commercial unit so the oil was mixed in I believe, so not much of that either.
So some time later I got another condenser. I have not yet put it in but am ready to, and to continue with the rest.
The question is, the Volvo kit came with a small bottle of ester oil. As the compressor was converted already but was drained, and the used condensor is empty, how much oil do I use, and how to put it in? I'm now going to use 3 cans from auto zone rather than the commercial charging unit, as the person I'm now working with has a vacuum unit and a metering device for the small cans.
I looked at the FAQ and it seems to be quite particular about how much to use.
Thanks for any comments.
