88 240 Headlights coming on when brake pedal is depressed 200 1988

I recently purchased an 88 240 Wagon for cheap from a friend because I was in desperate need of a car. After a few quick fixes she is on the road and I admit that wrenching on the car seems straight forward enough.

The next problem I need to deal with is as follows:

With the headlight switch off, if the brake is depressed, the headlights pop on. When you let off the brake pedal they go out. When the headlights are on everything runs as normal... I have a front headlight out, which I will be taking care of tomorrow, but all is normal otherwise. Bulb failure warning light comes on when brake is pushed, or when the headlights are turned on. Also the rear fog light switch lights when the lights are on. I don't know if this is normal.

The rear gate has been replaced (due to a minor accident) and I have heard rumors about wiring through the hinges becoming pinched or cut and causing problems. A visual inspection of the wiring looks good (both at the hinges, and at the bulbs in the rear). Also should add that the car sat for about a year and a half before I got it.

All help is much appreciated. Thank you in advance.
