1989 240 wagon broken distrutor 200 1989

Hello

I have a 89 240 wagon that died on the side of the road yesterday, we checked things out and figured out there was no spark at the plugs. but there is strong spark at the coil.

after pulling the distributor cap we realized the rotor doesn't move when you try to crank ..so there is no spark the rotor freewheels (not good?)

Apparently this means the distributor has had it, I have done a few DIY projects on this car (water pump, brakes, ummm AirMass Meter..etc) but I've never dealt with the distributor before.

I'm trying to get a feel for how hard this is going to be to try to do myself vs. having a shop handle it. The car is off the street and parked on side of road a mile or so from my house but I have to get it out of there soon so I'm trying to decide whether to have it towed to my house (fix myself) or to a shop (too hard to fix myself.)

any advice / tips ... anything...other than laughing at me i suspose =p greatly appreciated indeed.

thank you.
