Mechanical oil pressure gauge 140-160 1971

I bought a set of new gauges for my 164 (like the kind you get at Advance - nothing fancy) and the oil pressure gauge is mechanical. Which is to say that it came with a long thin plastic tube going to fittings that connect to the oil pressure sender hole and the back of the gauge. Obviously I have to take out the current electrical (one wire) sender switch. I assume this just turns a warning light on and off? It's not important to me to have a warning light if I have an accurate oil pressure gauge.

Anyway my question is about using a mechanical gauge like this. Is there going to be oil in this tube going back up to the dashboard? Or does it just pressurize the air in the tube against the back of the gauge (this seemed more likely)? Do I have to worry about heat and this tube at all? I had this terrible vision of heat melting the tube somehow, breaking it, and a thin spray of oil painting my engine compartment. IPD assured me that there wasn't anything to worry about, and I believe them, but should I wrap this tube in heat resistant tape, or slide it inside a rubber hose to protect it? Am I being overcautious?
