the car is a 86 745 with the turbo. One day we drove it 100 miles in the heat and then one mile from home, leaving a stop sign it lost power. Kind of felt like it was not getting enough fuel. Never died and by pumping the gas ( I know probably does nothing on a FI car) I got it home and then it ran great.
I had an almost new fuel pump(main) from P&S so replaced orig and put in new in tank pump.
Month later same thing losing power off stop sign. I tried newer fuel pressure reg from spare parts bin. Runs fine for a week or two and then does it again.
This time I feel more confident and drove right through down town. The car never cuts out completely and idles okay. It seems as if I floor it then it has full power, or suddenly comes up with power. Seems worse at part throttle. What I find is I can have the gas down 3/4 of the way and the turbo pressure gauge goes way up into the yellow but the car makes no power. Last time I was wondering if the transmission or rear end was locking up to cause a load on the engine.
I changed the air mass meter with a spare one and still did it today. When I get home it naturally runs fine and won't do this on command for me.
I wonder what the throttle position switch causes the car to do when it is bad.
I measured the voltage at the oxy sensor and it appears to fluctuate mostly hovers at .6 or so.
The turbo is old and whines when the engine is cold but sounds and works fine when car warmed up.
I have a large box of spares and could change the computer etc. but feel like I should try to narrow it down some.
It does not feel like a complete cut out that a loss of spark would cause.
I would appreciate any help I could get on this as the fun of this car is starting to go away. Doug
