Heater core has been dry for a few months, could this damage it? 700 1991

Back in June, because of a possibly faulty heater valve, I capped off the heater pipes on the engine. I don't know if there is any coolant in the heater core or not. Does leaving the heater core possibly dry for three months put it at extra risk of corroding and developing a leak?
