Well, I've posted on this issue before and got some responses, but I still have the infernal 'popping' and 'cracking' noise from both front door hinges of my 95 960. I have three 960 and this is the only one that does it. I have tried all the suggestions from the previous post- all manner of lubricants, cleaning, lifting up on the U-shaped spring with a screwdriver, etc. If I spray WD-40 the noises will dissappear for a few minutes, probably until the liquid evaporates, and then be just as bad as before. I've used oil, white lithium, grease, a dry chain wax for motorcycles, WD 40. None seem to work and in fact the hinges seem to make MORE noise when they're lubed too much.
I love this car, but I cringe every time I open/close the door! I thought I would try one more time to see if anyone has successfully beat this problem. Thanks.
