93 240 A/C Compressor Clutch or Electrical problem 200 1993

Symptom: when the a/c is on, after a few minutes the clutch will start cutting off and on once or twice in rapid sequence. It was intermittent at first, but is increasing in frequency. This causes the car to hiccup/hesitate, probably because the compressor is restarting under full load. (At first I thought it was something else as described in another thread: http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/volvo/1295778/220/240/260/280/hiccups_highway_240_93_hiccup.html)

I checked the wire and ground to the clutch and I don’t think that’s the problem (could not replicated the problem by bending/moving the wires). The A/C compressor label reads "GPD MG.0106", (Re?) mfr in GA. It’s about 2-3 years old. The a/c cools well. Any ideas? Thanks! JP
