Compressor locks up intermittently 940 turbo

I have had a problem with my compressor on a 1993 940 turbo locking up. It will lock up, but when I turn it off at the dash for a minute, and turn it on again it will then run normally. At slower speeds, it locks up more often than on the highway, or at faster RPM.

The belt starts to squeal is how I know it is locked up. Could the problem be electrical? Like the clutch losing voltage momentarily? If it was the compressor, wouldn't it just lock up solid? Any help is appreciated.
