I wrote a long post last year about by experience buying my 245 on ebay.

When I got the car the flame trap and system were completly stopped up. I couldn't drive a coathanger through the crud. BUT, the hose test on the breather box told me the box was NOT stopped up. So, I didn't fool with it.
I've had a little drip for a year now, and I thought it was a seal somewhere resulting from the stopped up system. Suspension work had drawn my attention away from that leak. Anyway, I noticed some oil coming from the breather box. The weather was nice; I was bored; Ole Miss had just beaten Florida, so I was feeling like a miracle was in the works for me....I pulled the breather box.
It doesn't look too bad, but there was NO "O" ring--not on the box, not on the block. I don't think I lost it while removing the box either. (I dragged an eagle-eyed kid out to the house to search under the car.) I think I found my leak.
I ordered a new box and "o" ring and new flame trap kit.
While I am waiting I have two questions, both fairly stupid:
1) does the "O" ring go on the block or on the breather box?
2) I cleaned the surface area diligently, but do I need to coat it with RTV when I put the box back on?
Incidental information: I read about 50 posts in the archieves about how hard it was to pull that breather box....remove intake manifold, pull everything back, use flex sockets, extensions, etc. Wow. I took a 1/4 13mm socket directly on a small ratchet, manuvered over the fender until I got both hands down there and had the box out in the sunlight in around 3 minutes.
