Choice: 205/65R15 vs. 205/60R15 on 15" rims for Volvo 242? 200

Hi there,

I have a well maintained 242 Volvo (82, IPD sway bars, Bilstein gas shocks) that I have been running 205/60R15 tires (Bridgestone Turanza LSH on 15" steel Volvo 740 rims from the TireRack) for some time. They are worn and need replacing and I'm considering either 205/60/15 or 205/65/15 Michelin MXV4 as replacement tires.

The question becomes what are the implications of running a slightly taller (205/65/15) tire on the 242 --- given that the stock tire & rim was a 185/70/14? (I've done the math...more interested in your direct experience.)

The wider 15" 740 rims combined with the 205/60/15 greatly improved handling of the 242, with a small decline in gas mileage associated with the wider tires and slightly lower wheel diagmeter that resulted --- relative to the stock configuration.

Anyone with practical experience of running both sizes on their 240's at different points in time? Any safety issues with the 205/65/15 tires/wheels on the 242?

Thanks.

Dave
