93 240 - Bilstein HD Struts might not fit??? 200

Getting ready to buy a second 93 240 and my plan is too R&R the struts and shocks with Bilstein HD, Just like I have on my current 93 240. But both the Bilstein and IPD website say "Not for cars with ABS". I spoke with an IPD rep and it was explained to me that some 240s with ABS have a smaller strut tube and the HD Bilstein will only make it half way in. I didn't have that problem with my current 240. So I got lucky

- I read the other posts regarding paint thickness, or weld splatter
- has anyone else heard about this? Is that the real issue
- Thoughts on how to determine which 240s have the undesirable strut tube? Or is this an issue with bilstein?
