So I ordered a new distributor and rotor from FCP Groton, and went to install them. Upon comparison with the old parts, the new parts looked different, bigger and mared with bosch and numbers. The old parts were purchased from autozone a couple of years ago, they both were supposedly bosch, but the dist was black, and says made in USA under the cap. The rotor was red, and is smaller than the one I got from FCP. But the hole in the rotor was the same size as the old part so I put it on. Dist seemed to fit fine. I hooked up the wires, correctly according to Bentley, and went to start her up. She cranks, but no start.
Puzzled, I rechecked the wires, they were correct in placement. I went to pull them out of the distributor and reseat them, and the worst happened. #2 lost its distributor end. Luckily I have spares lying around, so I hooked it up. Still no start. I put the original parts back in, wires correct, and still have no start. After trying to crank it one last time, I got a loud pop from the engine, a little bit higher in pitch then any backfire I have heard. Any suggestions?
Do I need the thin metal dome underneath the distributer, it seems loose, and one side of the tab on the firewall side is a little chewed up. I might have some pictures later.
She ran great less than two hours ago. This is depressing.
Thanks in advance,
Justin
