245 engine weirdness 200 1988

Now that I got back to working on the 245 that didn't want to leave me, I am once again trying to figure out the weird loping idle it has.

I tried disconnecting the MAF sensor, but I can't quite figure out what the result means. If I disconnect it, the RPM go up slightly, and the engine lopes a little less. If I plug it back in, it kills the engine. Does this mean MAF is bad?

Also, any suggestions on where to look for other things that might make the idle less than smooth?
