960 totally dead 900 1996

I recently purchased a 1996 960 wagon with about 77,000 miles on it. For about 2 months and 3000 miles the car has run great with the exception of occasionally the security system acting funny (with the keys only, we were not given the remote) By funny I mean it would occasionally lock up - the lights would flash, the horn would blow, the car would not turn over. Finally after fiddling with door locks and ignition switches it wold run again. The little red light on the dash sometimes flashes and other times does not. I discovered if I re-set the security by switching on the ignition 5 times it seemed to cure the problem. The little red light would be off after this maneuver. Also occasionally when one of theses episodes would occur the radio would need to be re-set, meaning that all power had been cut off. The other day during rush hour traffic in the center lane , the car the car just died without warning at a red light after coming off the highway. Completely dead - no dash lights - nothing. I had it towed to the dealership, all codes were erased, it was jumped started and has been working fine since. The dealership claims that there were no codes able to be retrieved. I believe it is related to the security system. Has anyone had this or a similar experience. Any advice would be appreciated. JoeS 94 940 83K, two 240s 92,87
