Confessions from an Exhust installation gone slowly 200 1986

It's in there, all hanging up and clamped in and it is all tight and lined up. A precision fit this is anything but. First {as feared those} those stupid rubber doughnuts that hold up the first muffler were frustrating. Tried screwdrivers, a seal puller, metal wire, weed whacker line, and lots of other things. Even put one of them it hot water to get more stretch. Pretty sure that if had a helper I would have gotten it one there with one of the first attempts. Took the Cat off to have move room and had that thing in all of sorts of contortions and positions. Did get close (close counts in A Bombs and Drive in Movies) several times but nothing worked and I was just getting frustrated. Knew that if I could hold it open more it would fit and finally got a strange idea if I did not have an extra set of hands maybe I could rig something up. Pulled out two old brake rotors, hung one over the drive shaft on a wire that pulled it too the side, and let the other dangle straight down on another wire. That did the trick, with the bigger opening from the two weights I was able to slip in there. It was the highlight of my evening. Cut the two weights off and moved onto the rest of the install. Not too crazy about working in there if a wire broke, but it was all good.

The next issue was getting the pipe under the axle lined up, and if they sold an over the axle pipe I would buy it. Has to be a better fit that the flattened pipe that goes under. When I got the under the axle pipe in there pulled out the 13mm and started cranking. But it seems I forgot to put a clamp where muffler 2 bolts into the axle pipe, and there was not a chance I was taking any thing back loose. Went to the auto parts house, and one 47mm clamp later we were in business.

But I found the exhaust to be well exhausting all in all.

Regards,

Paul
