I'm in the process of replacing my rusted-out fuel sending unit in my 1987 760 Turbo with a unit I got out of a 1990 740 Turbo. I checked and the units are the same except for the newer one having a rust-proof plastic top (yea!!), and the wire connector and wire colors being different. My old unit had a three-wire connector consisting of one red, one grey, and one brown wire. The black ground wire split off earlier in the bundle and was bolted to the trunk floor. Now the new unit has a four-wire bundle and connector (with numbers on the connector for each wire) consisting of one black wire (#4), one pink wire (#1), and two grey/white wires (#2 and #3). Obviously the #4 black wire is the ground and I can split that off to the chassis ground as before. I'm assuming the #1 pink wire is the positive, equivalent to my old red wire. Now that leaves #2 and #3 grey/white wires somehow corresponding to the old brown wire and the old grey wire, right? But which is which? Or doesn't it matter? I really would appreciate any help in this, as I don't want to create a Swedish gasoline bomb!
