Looking for a source for roof roofrack bolts 444-544

OK, I have a nice roofrack for my 59 445 & now I need to find six (6) suitable bolts to mount it. Unfortunately, when I bought the car it came without bolts in the roof. From what I was able to determine at Ace hardware tonight I need M8 1.25 pitch bolts. I bought one long non-stainless example of a M8X1.25 for test purposes. It seems the length needs to be pretty short - 1" or 3MM before it hits something inside.
Anyone know how the proper lenght these bolts are suppose to be? Is 1" or 3mm correct?
Also, I'd like to get stainless if possible.
Anyone know where I can find any M8X1.25 3MM length bolts? I looked for over an hour on the internet & can't find anything that small.
I'll even take non SS bolts if I have to.
Thanks in advance for any/all leads.
