G'day guys, i have been chasing a really rough idle on my 240 Gl for 8 months. On the weekend I decided to unscrew the idle adjust screw (plastic knob) all the way to have a bit of a look. I unscrewed it and had a whole bunch of trouble removing it but it finally came out. It appears that whoever installed it managed to pinch the o-ring (probably no vasalene) and the seal has been caught up in the thread of the screw pretty bad. It doesn;t look like it could have sealed very well at all. I managed to find two smaller o-rings that fit but their OD was a tad small. I fitted them anyway with loads of vaselene and it seemd pretty good for a while before the idle started to sit up around 1300 rpm and wouldnt respond very well to any adjustments of the screw. The engine also bucked a bit on start up. I removed the idle screw and wrapped the grove where the seals sit with some plumbers PTFE tape to increase the effective OD of the o-rings and reinserted, a fraction tight but it looks as though i now have an idle of about 900rpm and when I slip it into gear (auto) it drops to about 650rpm or so but seems smoother than before. I also noticed the larger vacume line leaving the body that the idle screw goes into was collapsing under revs and closing off, i replaced this with a tougher fuel line and it at least holds its form. I have not had a chance to start it cold yet and will find out in the morning when i have to drive to work but would this seal be liekely to cause me these symptoms on my B23E?
