I'm changing the motor mounts in my 1991 240. Got the Driver's Side out, both the upper plate and lower plate that holds the mount. Put new mount in by placing the three bottom screws that go to the front crossmember in place, but can't get the three bolts that fasten to the car's motor to go in. My 91 has a rod that runs down from the AC business up top, and this rod fastens to two of the motor mount's three top bolts, and lining this thing up has given me fits.
Managed to line the whole thing up, bolt, motor mount, AC rod -- I'm close, but the engine is tipped over to the passenger side and is not level. In jacking up the motor up and down to negotiate the removal of said motor mount did I mention I jacked it up using the old "jack up by the oil pan method?" well there it is. I smoke cigarettes too since we're confessing here. In jacking it up and down, I managed to rip the passenger side motor mount off, sheared that sucker right off. So now what do I do? Should I change the passenger side mount and hope that it pushes the motor a few inches towards the driver's side once it's in place? Problem appears to eminate from the jacking method. What is the correct solution. Would appreciate a response from anyone including Joe the Plumber.
Deeply appreciated
Cuddy
P.S. I did try the Art Benstein method who said go to Home Depot and get some kind of gizmo that will pull the motor straight up and hold it steady and he paid $15 bucks for it or something like that but of course when I went to Home Depot they said no speekee englisy and sent me to the come-along section where I got lost.
