Hi, all.
I've got a 1984 B23F (automatic trans) that has developed a reluctance to idle when started in the (cold, around here now) morning -- even though it starts instantly. It idles fine after warming up, and mostly the same the rest of the day (maybe a little roughness on an afternoon start if it sat for a while).
To keep it going at a cold start up, I have to keep lightly feathering (pressing lightly, up and down on) the gas pedal for 2 or 3 minutes, or else she'll die. Retarting, though, is instant -- it just won't idle on its own until it's warmed up a bit.
It seems like there's no cold (enrichment) mode occuring. On my older '80, it had a separate cold-start injector into the manifold that I could test; this '84 doesn't have it, though, so I guess the ECU just changes the injection pattern when cold.
I'm suspecting the temp sensor (under the 3rd manifold passage, right?), but before I go to all the trouble removing stuff to get at it, is there anything else that's likely and easier to test first?
Thanks, all.
