Discussion - No start after doing a bunch of stuff 700 1991

Well I have to leave in 5 minutes to go to octoberfest (can't miss that) but I spent the day finishing up the car. Everything is back together. But now it won't start, and strange things are happening. Here they are:

1. As soon as you turn the key the wipers start going, and won't turn off no matter what position the wiper lever is in.

2. Keyminder buzzer and dome light do not come on.

3. When you turn the key to start, you can hear the main fuel pump whirring away, but no fuel is getting pumped because at first I had the main fuel line at the rail disconnected and running into a jug to clear out any possible crud in the fuel line. No fuel showed up. No gas smell either, out of anywhere.

4. Only sometimes, the starter makes that sickly grinding noise and doesn't crank the engine. It's a new rebuilt one. Other times you don't even get that.

Here are my ideas: I might not have a good enough connection at the battery terminals (I don't like top posts). Maybe the ignition electrical switch is bad (but it wasn't before). Maybe the battery is dead (I'll check tomorrow).

But I can't think of anything else. Anyone have any ideas? I know I'm not the only one with no-start problems here, but I do appreciate your time and suggestions. Thanks.
