Gentlemen,
The shutter on my idle air control motor rotates back and forth freely, including during the OBD phase 3 test, but I saw today that the shutter rotates past the shutter opening by about 1/8 to 3/16 inch. That is, when the shutter is supposed to be closed, it is really still open by a little bit. This was with the hoses off the motor and the motor rotated up in its rubber harness so that I could just see into the outlet side from looking at the motor from low on the driver's side fender.
Is this a problem? A Volvo mechanic told me yesterday that the IAC Motors have a spring inside that wears out with age. This is also the kind of IAC motor that does not come apart. I tried to take this one apart a month or two ago and abandoned that effort. A new Bosch IAC motor is available at the parts store but costs nearly $200. I would like to rehabilitate the one I have if possible and necessary. The mechanic yesterday added that the epoxied bolt or screw end near the shutter door is an adjustment.
Any comments on this? Thank you. Any comment welcome.
