help with camshaft seal on 740 NA 700

The seal on one of the 1989 740s leaks badly. Even at idle, at engine start up, I can see the oil leaking out of the tbelt cover about 1 inch below the top on the passenger side.

Question: Could I try to push the seal back in place? Without removing the tbelt? Just pry it back in?

I realize the flame trap is probably completely clogged and caused this problem in the first place.

Chilton's says to remove the fan before removing the tbelt cover??? Isn't there enough room to just unbolt the cover and lift it up? It is 35F here and I don't want to be exposed to the elements very long. They look like 10mm bolts.

Thanks,
Klaus
